Personal Project

The Personal Project is a project initiated and developed by students, demonstrating their ability to apply Approaches to Learning skills in a situation outside the classroom. The Personal Project represents a self-directed inquiry into an area of interest.

Each student must generate an idea for the project, plan each step of the project completion, develop criteria for evaluating the quality of the final product/outcome, create a product/outcome in response to the established goal, context and criteria, and determine whether the goal has been achieved.

Students work on their Personal Project under the supervision of a Personal Project mentor. The work on the Personal Project begins in March of grade 10 and ends in November of grade 11.

Personal Project is a mandatory IBMYP Certificate requirement.

Specific requirements of the Personal Project are explained in the “Guide to the Personal Project”, provided to students in grade 10.
