St. Thomas High School prioritizes bilingualism in all our students; we offer a number courses in French along with the different French language options.

Students coming to St. Thomas are offered the opportunity to maintain the enriched French from Français plus and immersion programs through access to courses in French that make up the majority of their day. We also offer a continuation of Français Langue d’enseignement for students who will be joining us from francophone elementary schools.

3 different French language courses:

Français langue seconde de base: followed by our immersion and English program students. Français langue seconde de base is a course designed for students who have followed the Bilingual Program in elementary school. Emphasis is placed on further developing the students` vocabulary and their oral communication skills in French. Students will continue to develop skills to function efficiently in French in all aspects of their school and personal lives.

Français enrichi: Followed by IB students. This course is offered to students who show a proficient level of French as a second language. This course strives to continue to further develop their French fluency in their daily communications, with a continued focus on discussion and writing skills. Students are required to interact, to comprehend and write texts in a more complex and varied manner. Students will graduate having completed the IB language acquisition program at its highest level; expérimenté.

Français Langue D’enseignement : Offert aux élèves en BI. Le cours de français langue d’enseignement est offert aux élèves qui maîtrisent bien la langue. Ce cours est le même que celui offert dans les écoles francophones et vous permet, à la fin du secondaire 5, d’obtenir 6 crédits. Les élèves reçoivent un Certificat Bilingue de l’organisation BI à la fin du secondaire.
